Best Hidden Gem Proposal Locations in WNC
Western North Carolina truly has some hidden gems when it comes to proposals. Amazing scenery, unique adventure, and so much more (I even wrote a blog post about why you should get engaged here!) I’m a little biased, but it really is unlike any other place. I love it so much I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite places to pop the question!
Lake Nantahala provides the beauty of Lake Lure (hello, Dirty Dancing!) but remains one of those one of a kind locations perfect for a little bit more intimate setting.
2. Black Balsam Knob
Off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Black Balsam Knob is one of my most favorite locations to photograph. With stunning views of the Appalachian Mountains, gorgeous scenery, and year round evergreens, it offers the most options for having a wide range of photographs for your proposal experience. Plus, Black Balsam Knob at sunrise? BREATHTAKING.
3. Western Carolina Regional Airport
The hidden gems of all hidden gems, the first time I ever photographed at this location, we were gifted the most beautiful sunset ever. Home to endless mountain views and a killer golden hour, it’s a location that’s absolutely breathtaking for proposing. You need to have permission to shoot here, so please reach out if this option is your preference!
4. Wayah Bald
Tucked away between Franklin, NC, and Nantahala, NC, this hidden gem offers killer aerial mountain views. With the Bartram and Appalachian trails nearby, it really is an intimate adventure location that feels like a secret shared between friends. Sunrise here is truly amazing, and the drive there also includes several waterfalls that are perfect for stopping for additional photos.
5. Buck Bald Mountain
Where North Carolina and Tennessee meet there are so many different options and views to choose from. Buck Bald Mountain is a great option because you can drive right up to the bald (the top of a mountain that has no trees that means you can typically see mountain lines because of its barren top). It’s the perfect place for a picnic or having endless mountain views as the backdrop to your big moment.
6. Bell Mountain
This location is technically located in North Georgia, but it overlooks Lake Chatuge, which is split between North Georgia and Western North Carolina, so we’re counting it! This location is particularly great for the winter, when the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed. It offers stunning panoramic views of the lake, surrounding towns, and mountains, while being easily accessible — you can drive right up to the overlook.
Here’s the real secret to proposing in Western North Carolina:
The best place to propose to your partner is anywhere that’s special to you. In reality, what’s going to make your day special is the fact that you and your person are deciding to spend forever together — the surrounding scenery is just an added bonus.
It can be stressful thinking through the details, the constant changing mountain weather, and the many things that can go wrong — but that’s where I come in. From proposals that included an airplane flying by to drop the ring, to sunrise on the parkway, to an absolutely fogged out mountainside adventure — I’m prepared for it and have seen it all.
