There’s something truly magical about Black Balsam Knob, and this engagement session was no exception. Nestled along the Blue Ridge Parkway, this location is known for its sweeping mountain views, golden sunsets, and wide-open grassy balds that make it one of the most stunning places for adventurous couples to celebrate their love.
For Rowan and Christiaan, their Black Balsam Knob engagement session was nothing short of perfection. Plus, it was super meaningful since they got engaged at this specific location. From the cool, crisp air to the undeniable chemistry between them, every moment felt effortless and beautifully real.

One of the things I love most about Black Balsam Knob is how the landscape transforms as the light changes. When we arrived, the temperature was a perfect 60 degrees—just cool enough to feel refreshing but still warm enough to stay comfortable as we hiked up the trail.
As we made our way to the open ridgeline, these two fully embraced the adventure, walking hand in hand and soaking in the vast beauty of the mountains around them. Their joy was tangible, their laughter effortless, and every moment felt like a scene from a love story.
The Magic of Blue Hour at Black Balsam Knob
As the sun began to set, we were treated to the kind of golden light that makes my photographer heart so happy. The sky was painted in soft hues of pink and orange, wrapping the mountains in a dreamy glow. Most people love golden hour and its magical warm glow, but I personally have a soft spot for those moments right after the sun starts dipping in the mountains, making the world feel softer, quieter, and a little more ethereal — like we were the only ones in the world.
As the last light faded behind the peaks, the sky turned deep blue, and the atmosphere became even more romantic. You could see the mountain landscape for miles, and you really got to see where the Blue Ridge Parkway got its name. These two embraced in the fading light, completely lost in the moment, and it was pure perfection.
