Film Meets Documentary: A June Wedding Full of Honest Moments

What does "film meets documentary" actually mean?

If you've spent any amount of time searching for a film wedding photographer or a documentary wedding photographer, you've probably noticed those words everywhere.

But they aren't exactly the same thing.

For me, film-inspired documentary photography means preserving your day with honesty while creating images that feel timeless enough to have existed twenty years ago—or twenty years from now.

It isn't about chasing trends.

It isn't about recreating Pinterest.

It's about creating photographs that breathe.

Images filled with movement.

Texture.

Light.

Emotion.

The little pauses that often become the biggest memories.

Documentary photography isn't about doing less.

It's about seeing more.

One of my favorite compliments from couples is hearing,

"We forgot the camera was even there."

That's always my hope.

Editorial portraits—with room to breathe.

While most of the day unfolds naturally, I also believe your portraits deserve intention.

Not stiff posing.

Not endless direction.

Just enough guidance for you to settle into one another.

I often tell my couples,

"Pretend I'm not here for a minute."

Take a breath.

Close your eyes.

Hold each other like it's an ordinary Tuesday.

That's usually when the photographs become extraordinary.

The result is a blend of editorial wedding photography and documentary storytelling—images that feel beautiful without ever feeling manufactured.

BOOK HER!!!

Before we even spoke with Caroline, I knew she was going to be our wedding photographer (availability allowing). Her portfolio immediately stood out to me because of the way she captures candid, authentic moments. Every photo felt genuine and full of emotion, and I could picture myself in those moments. That was exactly what I wanted for our wedding day.

After our initial conversation, it was a complete no-brainer. Caroline was warm, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best experience possible. We felt confident from the very beginning that we could trust her with one of the biggest days of our lives.

My husband and I are NOT people who feel natural in front of a camera, and honestly, we barely have any photos of ourselves together. It was really important to us to enjoy our wedding day instead of feeling like we were constantly stopping to pose, while also having someone who could confidently guide us and make sure we captured the moments and family photos we’d cherish forever. Caroline struck that balance perfectly.

Throughout the entire wedding weekend, Caroline and her team were such a calming, positive presence. They let us be fully present with our family and friends while seamlessly stepping in when needed to keep everything on track and capture every important moment. Nothing ever felt forced, and we always felt completely taken care of. It was obvious how much they cared about documenting our day in a way that felt true to us.

If you’re looking for a photographer who creates timeless, authentic images while making you feel completely at ease, I can’t recommend Caroline and her team enough. They were such a special part of our wedding weekend, and we’re so grateful they’ll be the ones preserving these memories for us.
